The Mergui Archipelago is in the far south of Myanmar and consists of around 800 islands forming one of the last remaining untouched paradises on earth. Most are uninhabited though a few are temporary homes to the local sea gypsies who sail from island to island. The islands are densely forested and mountainous with the jungle coming down to meet white sand beaches. Animal and birdlife is prolific on the islands with sea eagles, parakeets, monkeys, leopards, elephants and rhinoceros being reported inland.
On the coasts of the islands there are numerous natural harbours providing a wide range of day and overnight anchorages. There is a bay for every boat, in any weather. For scuba divers the diving is world class, especially around the islands furthest away from the mainland. Even for the casual snorkeller there is plenty to see around any of the islands.
UNITEAM YACHTING charters usually start in either Mergui in the north or Kawthaung in the south and then sail to finish at the other port allowing you to see as much of the archipelago as possible. Both places have nearby airports to allow easy transfers from Yangon.
